The Hormone Method
There was a time I didn't recognize myself.
The mood shifts that came out of nowhere. The exhaustion that sleep didn't fix. The brain fog, the anxiety, the feeling that my body was doing something no one had warned me about, and wondering if I was the only one.
I wasn't. And neither are you.
What changed everything for me wasn't one doctor or one answer. It was finally understanding what was actually happening inside my body, and realizing that with the right information, I could meet these moments with awareness instead of fear. Over time, those moments became less frequent. And when they do come, I know how to move through them.
That's what The Hormone Method is. Everything I wish I'd had, all in one place, built for you.
You are not going crazy. You are not alone. And this is where it starts.
With love,
Lorrean

Your data, in plain terms
Because you're sharing health information with us, you deserve to know exactly how it's protected — before you continue.
🔒

Encrypted and never sold

Your health data is encrypted in transit and at rest — never sold, rented, or shared with advertisers. Unlike some period-tracking apps that have faced scrutiny over data-sharing, this is a structural commitment, not a policy that can quietly change.

🔐

Only you can access your data

Enforced at the database level — not just an app setting, a structural safeguard.

🔑

Your password stays hidden — even from us

It's encrypted before it ever reaches our database. No one on our team can see it.

💬

AI coach messages stay private

Sent securely to generate your coach's response — not used to train outside AI models.

Export or delete anytime

Full control from Settings — no waiting, no friction, no questions asked.

The Hormone Method

Effective Date: June 19, 2026

Last Updated: September 3, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to The Hormone Method ("the App," "we," "us," or "our"). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use The Hormone Method mobile application.

Please read this policy carefully. By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1A. Accounts and Login Security

The Hormone Method requires an account to use the App, created with your email address and a password.

How your password is protected: Your password is never stored in plain text. It is hashed using industry-standard encryption before it touches our database, meaning even our own team cannot view it. If you forget your password, we can only help you reset it — we cannot look it up or tell it to you.

Session handling: When you log in, we issue a secure session token (not your password) to keep you logged in on your device. This token is stored securely and expires automatically after a period of inactivity.

What you can control:

  • Change your password at any time in Settings
  • Delete your account and all associated data at any time (see Section 7.2)

We will never email you asking for your password. If you receive such a request claiming to be from us, please report it to hellohormonemethod@gmail.com and do not respond.

2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you create an account or use the App, you may provide:

  • Account information: First name, email address, and password
  • Health and wellness information: Hormonal stage, cycle phase, symptoms, health goals, and morning time availability
  • Daily tracking data: Energy levels, mood scores, sleep quality ratings, anxiety levels, period days, and symptoms you log each day
  • Habit completion data: Whether you completed your morning ritual, walk, supplements, breathwork, or other daily practices
  • AI coach conversations: Messages you send to and receive from the AI coaching feature, including any you choose to save
2.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you use the App, we may automatically collect:

  • Device information: Device type and operating system version
  • Usage data: Features you access and general interaction patterns, used only to improve the App
2.3 Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

  • Social Security numbers or government identification
  • Financial account numbers or credit card information
  • Precise GPS or real-time location data
  • Contacts, photos, or camera data
  • Lab results, prescription information, or connections to electronic health records
  • Insurance information
2.4 Apple Health (Optional)

If you choose to connect the App to Apple Health, sleep data you've granted access to may be read from Apple Health to pre-fill your sleep log. This connection is entirely optional, requires your explicit permission through iOS, and can be revoked at any time in your device's Settings app. We do not write any data back to Apple Health.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and personalize the App: Deliver phase-specific guidance, supplement information, movement plans, breathwork, and mindfulness practices tailored to your profile and track
  • Power the AI coach: Your health profile and conversation history are used to generate personalized coaching responses via the Anthropic API
  • Save your progress: Store your daily tracking logs, streak, and history across sessions
  • Send local reminders: If you enable them, daily reminder notifications are scheduled directly on your device
  • Improve the App: Analyze aggregate, anonymized usage patterns to fix issues and improve features
  • Communicate with you: Send account-related emails such as password resets or policy updates

We do not use your health data for advertising purposes. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. Health Data and HIPAA Notice

The Hormone Method collects health-related information including menstrual cycle data, hormonal symptoms, mood, sleep quality, energy levels, and wellness practices. This information is sensitive, and we treat it with the highest level of care.

Important: The Hormone Method is a consumer wellness application and is not a covered entity or business associate as defined under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The health information you enter into this App is not protected by HIPAA.

However, we voluntarily apply privacy principles consistent with HIPAA's spirit, including collecting only necessary health data, not disclosing it without your consent, implementing technical safeguards, and giving you control over your data.

We strongly encourage you not to enter highly sensitive medical information (such as prescription medication details or diagnoses from healthcare providers) into the App.

5. How We Share Your Information
5.1 Service Providers

We work with a small number of trusted providers to operate the App. These providers only access your data to perform services on our behalf and are contractually prohibited from using it for other purposes:

  • Anthropic (AI coach): Your AI coach messages and health profile context are processed by Anthropic's commercial API to generate coaching responses. Under Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service, this data is not used to train Anthropic's models, and inputs/outputs are automatically deleted within 30 days, except where content is flagged for a safety review, in which case it may be retained longer. Anthropic's privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/privacy.
  • Supabase (database): Your account data and tracking logs are stored securely in Supabase's infrastructure.
  • Resend (email delivery): Used only to deliver account-related emails, such as signup confirmation and password resets.
  • RevenueCat (subscription management): Used to process and manage your subscription purchase, status, and billing cycle through Apple's App Store. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.

A note on reminder notifications: Daily reminders are scheduled locally on your own device using Apple's built-in notification system. No third-party notification service is used.

5.2 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of The Hormone Method, our users, or the public.

5.3 Business Transfers

If The Hormone Method is acquired, merged, or its assets are transferred, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email and/or prominent notice in the App before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

5.4 With Your Consent

We may share your information for any other purpose with your explicit consent.

6. Data Storage and Security
6.1 Where Your Data Is Stored

Your account information and health tracking data are stored on secure servers located in the United States (Oregon), not only on your device. This is what allows you to see your patterns and progress over time, avoid losing data if you switch phones, and lets your AI coach maintain conversation context. Your AI coach conversation history follows this same policy — it is retained for as long as your account is active and deleted along with the rest of your account data (see Section 6.5).

What stays local to your device only: Biometric data used to unlock the App (such as Face ID) is handled entirely by iOS and never sent to our servers. Scheduled reminder notifications also live entirely on your device.

6.2 Security Measures
  • Encryption in transit and at rest: All data moving between your device and our servers is encrypted (TLS 1.2+), and all data is encrypted at rest.
  • Row-level security: Access controls are enforced at the database level. The database itself blocks any attempt to access another user's data — a structural safeguard, not merely a policy.
  • Restricted access: Access to production data is limited to essential personnel.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6.3 Data Breach Notification

If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal data, we will notify affected users within 72 hours of confirming the breach, describe what data was affected, and outline steps you can take to protect yourself.

6.4 Vulnerability Reporting

If you discover a security issue with the App, please email hellohormonemethod@gmail.com rather than disclosing it publicly.

6.5 Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where required by law to retain it longer.

7. Your Rights and Choices
7.1 Access and Correction

You may access and update your profile information at any time through the App's Settings, and export a full copy of your data at any time.

7.2 Data Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and all associated data by using the "Delete Account" option in Settings, or by emailing hellohormonemethod@gmail.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

7.3 Notification Preferences

You may turn off reminder notifications at any time in the App's Settings or your device's notification settings.

7.4 California Residents (CCPA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of it, opt out of its sale (we do not sell personal information), and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Contact hellohormonemethod@gmail.com to exercise these rights.

7.5 European Residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Health data is treated as "special category data" under GDPR Article 9, requiring explicit consent, which is why onboarding specifically asks you to acknowledge you are providing health-related information.

To exercise any GDPR right, contact hellohormonemethod@gmail.com.

8. Children's Privacy

The Hormone Method is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and account creation requires confirming you meet this age requirement. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact hellohormonemethod@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.

9. Third-Party Links

The App may contain links to third-party websites or resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the App and, where appropriate, via email. Your continued use of the App after the effective date of a revised policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.

11. Contact Us

⏰When you take supplements matters as much as what you take. This timeline removes all guesswork.
On waking
empty stomach
16–20 oz warm water + lemon or sea salt
Rehydrates, flushes lymph, primes bile. Before anything else, every day.
Breakfast
with fat
D3 (5,000 IU) + K2 (100mcg) · Omega-3 (2–3g) · B-complex · Collagen (10–20g) + vit C
Fat-soluble vitamins need fat to absorb. B-complex causes nausea on empty stomach. Collagen always needs vitamin C.
With meals
Iron + vitamin C · Zinc mid-meal
Iron absorbs 3x better with C. Keep 2 hrs from calcium and coffee. Zinc with food reduces nausea.
Afternoon
2–4pm
Ashwagandha (300mg) · Probiotics
Afternoon ashwagandha lowers evening cortisol — critical in perimenopause.
Bedtime
30–60 min before
Magnesium glycinate (300–400mg) · Ashwagandha 2nd dose · L-theanine (optional)
Most important supplement for hormonal women. Glycinate form only. Relaxes muscles, calms nervous system, supports progesterone and sleep.
⚠️Key interactions: Iron blocks calcium and zinc — separate by 2 hrs. Calcium blocks magnesium — take magnesium at bedtime. Stop biotin at least a week before bloodwork — the FDA has warned it can skew thyroid and other hormone lab results, and some clinicians say 3 days isn't always enough.
🧭These stay the same across every phase and every stage. They're your daily foundation, not something to swap out. For what changes by phase, check "Food by phase" — and for symptom-specific additions, check "By symptom."
Magnesium glycinate
300–400mg · bedtime · glycinate form only
Most important supplement for hormonal women. Regulates cortisol, supports progesterone, calms nervous system, improves sleep, reduces cramping and anxiety.
AnxietySleepCrampsMood
Vitamin D3 + K2
5,000 IU + 100mcg · with fat · never take D3 without K2
D3 is a hormone — regulates 2,000+ genes. Critical for serotonin, bone density, immunity, hot flash reduction.
BoneMoodHot flashes
Omega-3 (EPA + DHA)
2–3g daily · with breakfast · triglyceride form
Reduces systemic inflammation. EPA supports mood. DHA supports brain clarity and skin elasticity. Evidence for reducing hot flashes specifically is mixed — some studies show a benefit for night sweats, less consistently for hot flashes.
Brain fogSkinMood
B-complex (methylated)
1 capsule daily · with breakfast · methylated forms only
B6 supports progesterone and serotonin. B12 supports energy. Up to 40% of women have MTHFR variant and cannot convert synthetic B vitamins.

Collagen peptides (types I + III)
10–20g daily · always with vitamin C
Skin loses up to 30% of collagen in first 5 perimenopausal years. 10g+ daily improves elasticity, reduces joint pain, supports hair and gut.
SkinJointsHair
Ashwagandha (KSM-66)
300–600mg · afternoon + bedtime
Reduces cortisol, improves thyroid function, reduces anxiety, improves sleep, increases DHEA. Most evidence-backed adaptogen for perimenopause.
CortisolAnxietyThyroid
Iron + vitamin C (if low ferritin)
With 500mg C · away from calcium + coffee · always test before supplementing
Low ferritin (optimal 70–100 ng/mL) is #1 missed cause of hair shedding, fatigue, brain fog in women 40+.
HairFatigueBrain fog
Zinc + Biotin
Zinc 15–25mg with food · Biotin 2,500–5,000mcg daily
Zinc plays a role in regulating DHT and androgen-related hair thinning. Biotin supports keratin production but has the strongest evidence in people who are actually biotin-deficient, not as a general hair-growth booster. Stop biotin at least a week before bloodwork — the FDA has warned it can interfere with thyroid and other hormone lab results.
HairSkinNails
Creatine monohydrate
3–5g daily · any time, with food improves uptake · most-researched form
Growing clinical evidence specifically in perimenopausal and menopausal women: preserves muscle mass and strength when paired with resistance training, and a recent randomized trial found measurable improvements in reaction time and brain creatine levels. Evidence for bone density benefit on its own (without resistance training) is currently mixed — the largest long-term trial found no bone benefit from creatine alone. Declining estrogen is linked to declining creatine availability — this is one of the better-evidenced additions for this life stage.
MuscleBrain fogMood
L-Glutamine
5–10g daily · mix with cold or room-temp liquid (heat breaks it down)
An amino acid the gut lining uses heavily for fuel. The strongest clinical evidence for gut-barrier benefits is at higher doses (30g+/day) or in specific conditions like post-infectious IBS — at this lower daily dose, think of it as generally supportive rather than a guaranteed fix. Worth knowing: not recommended if you have epilepsy, bipolar disorder, or advanced liver disease — check with your doctor first if any of those apply to you.
Gut healthInflammation
L-Tyrosine Community favorite
500–1,000mg · morning, on an empty stomach · start low
An amino acid your body uses to make dopamine and norepinephrine. Many women in this community have found it genuinely helpful for daytime energy and mental fatigue, especially during stressful or low-energy stretches. Evidence is strongest for cognitive performance and alertness under stress — it's not a stimulant in the caffeine sense, more of a building block your brain may be short on.

⚕️This section is for educational purposes only. It is not medical advice and does not recommend or prescribe any treatment. HRT is a personal medical decision made between you and your healthcare provider.
📉
During perimenopause and menopause, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone all decline — starting as early as the mid-30s for testosterone. This affects hot flashes, night sweats, sleep, mood, energy, libido, brain fog, bone density, and more.
💊
Bioidentical HRT replaces those hormones in forms your body recognizes — including estrogen gel, testosterone gel, and micronized progesterone. These are not the same as older synthetic hormones like Premarin (made from horse urine) or synthetic progestins — and the distinction matters both for safety and effectiveness.
🔬
HRT is one of the most studied medical interventions in women's health. Guidance has changed significantly since the 2002 WHI study that caused widespread fear.
⚡
Testosterone often gets left out of this conversation, but it is worth raising directly — reduced sexual desire is the symptom with the strongest evidence link to declining testosterone. See the "Types" tab for more.
Who it is typically considered for
✅
Women with moderate to severe symptoms significantly affecting quality of life
✅
Women with early menopause (before 45) or premature ovarian insufficiency (before 40)
✅
Women at elevated risk of osteoporosis or cardiovascular disease related to hormone loss
⚠️
Generally not recommended for women with personal history of hormone-sensitive breast cancer, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or active blood clots
🔬The evidence on bioidentical HRT is substantial, evolving, and frequently misunderstood. Bioidentical hormones — including estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, all available in gel form — have a meaningfully different evidence profile than the synthetic hormones used in the study that scared millions of women away from HRT for decades.
Setting the record straight on the 2002 WHI study
📰
What the study actually usedThe WHI used oral synthetic progestins and conjugated equine estrogen (from horse urine) — not bioidentical hormones. It studied women with an average age of 63, most of whom were more than 10 years past menopause. Its findings do not directly apply to bioidentical transdermal hormones started closer to menopause.
✅
Transdermal estrogen gel carries no increased clot riskMultiple large studies have found that transdermal estrogen — gel, patch, or spray — does not carry the blood clot risk associated with oral estrogen tablets. The route of delivery matters significantly.
✅
Bioidentical micronized progesterone has a better safety profileUnlike the synthetic progestins used in the WHI, bioidentical micronized progesterone does not appear to carry the same elevated breast cancer or cardiovascular risk. Several studies specifically show a more favorable profile.
What the positive evidence actually shows
✅
NAMS 2022: Benefits outweigh risks for most womenFor healthy women under 60 or within 10 years of menopause, the North American Menopause Society states that benefits of HRT outweigh risks for most women with bothersome symptoms.
✅
Significant bone density protectionHRT is one of the most effective interventions for preventing osteoporosis-related fractures. Estrogen directly supports bone remodeling — its decline is a primary driver of bone loss in menopause.
✅
Cardiovascular protection when started earlyEvidence supports a "timing hypothesis" — HRT started within 10 years of menopause or before age 60 may reduce cardiovascular risk rather than raise it. The risk profile changes when started later.
✅
Brain and cognitive protectionEstrogen plays a role in memory, cognitive function, and neuroprotection. Some research suggests starting HRT during the perimenopause window may support long-term brain health, including potential dementia risk reduction.
✅
Testosterone gel: evidence-backed for low sexual desireBioidentical testosterone gel is the same approach used successfully by many women including those with surgical menopause. NICE and the British Menopause Society specifically support its use for low sexual desire (HSDD) when HRT alone hasn't been fully effective. This is its established, evidence-based use — claims about it broadly boosting energy or cognitive clarity go beyond what current guidelines support, though some women do report those effects.
✅
Estrogen gel for symptom reliefBioidentical estrogen gel effectively reduces hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, vaginal dryness, and mood instability. For many women these are not minor inconveniences — they are quality-of-life issues that affect work, relationships, and daily functioning.
✅
No arbitrary time limitNAMS and the British Menopause Society both state there is no evidence-based time limit on how long HRT can be used for women without contraindications. The old "5-year rule" was never grounded in evidence.
💡Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone can all be delivered in gel form as bioidentical hormones — meaning some women manage their entire hormone protocol with gels alone, without patches or pills. Ask your provider what combination makes sense for you.
Bioidentical transdermal estrogen (patch, gel, spray)
Generally preferred · lowest clot risk
Bioidentical estrogen applied through the skin, bypassing the liver. Chemically identical to the estrogen your body produces. Does not carry the same blood clot risk as oral tablets. Gel form is a common and flexible option. Also preferred over oral because oral estrogen raises SHBG, which can reduce available testosterone.
Bioidentical progesterone (micronized)
Most favorable safety profile
Chemically identical to your body's own progesterone — not a synthetic progestin. Often taken as a capsule at bedtime — mild sedating effect helps sleep. Also available in gel or cream form.
Local / vaginal estrogen
Low dose · often safe long term
Very low-dose bioidentical estrogen for vaginal dryness, pain, and urinary symptoms. Minimal systemic absorption. Available as cream, ring, or suppository.
Bioidentical testosterone (gel or cream)
Often overlooked · evidence-backed for low sexual desire
Bioidentical testosterone — chemically identical to what your body produces — is actually the most abundant active hormone in women's bodies before menopause, not just a "male hormone." UK and international guidelines (NICE, British Menopause Society) specifically support testosterone for low sexual desire (HSDD) when estrogen/progesterone HRT alone has not fully helped — that's its established, evidence-based use. Some women also report improvements in energy, mood, and mental clarity, though the research backing those specific effects is less established than for libido. Given transdermally as a gel or cream — some women use bioidentical estrogen and testosterone gels as part of the same daily protocol.
Myth
"HRT causes breast cancer"
▾
What the evidence actually shows: This fear comes primarily from the 2002 WHI study, which used synthetic progestins — not bioidentical progesterone. Studies specifically on bioidentical micronized progesterone show a significantly more favorable profile. The distinction between synthetic progestins and bioidentical progesterone is real, meaningful, and frequently overlooked in mainstream coverage of this topic. If you are using or considering bioidentical hormones, the risk picture looks quite different from what most headlines describe.
Myth
"You should only take HRT for 2–5 years"
▾
What current guidelines say: The "5-year rule" was never evidence-based. NAMS and BMS now state there is no arbitrary time limit for women without contraindications.
Myth
"HRT will make me gain weight"
▾
What research shows: Clinical trials do not support HRT causing weight gain. Weight changes in perimenopause are primarily driven by declining estrogen and metabolism changes — not HRT.
Overlooked
"My doctor said I don't need it — so I don't"
▾
What you should know: Menopause medicine is a specialty. Many doctors trained during the post-WHI era of fear. You are entitled to a second opinion from a menopause specialist.
Overlooked
"Testosterone is just a male hormone, it's not relevant to me"
▾
What the evidence shows: Testosterone is actually the most abundant active hormone in women's bodies before menopause. Its established, evidence-based use is for persistent low sexual desire (HSDD) — guidelines from NICE and the British Menopause Society specifically support testosterone for this when standard HRT alone has not fully helped. Broader claims about energy or brain fog are less firmly established in the research, though some women do report those benefits.
Questions to ask your doctor
❓
"Am I a candidate for HRT based on my current symptoms and health history?"
❓
"What is my personal risk-benefit picture based on my specific history?"
❓
"Is there a reason you wouldn't recommend transdermal estrogen and body-identical progesterone?"
❓
"Given my fatigue and libido changes, should we also test and discuss testosterone, not just estrogen and progesterone?"
❓
"If HRT isn't appropriate for me, what alternatives do you recommend?"

Starting the conversation
Hey. I want to talk to you about something I have been going through, and I want you to know upfront that this is not about anything you have done wrong. My hormones are genuinely shifting right now and it is affecting my mood, sleep, and energy. I am working on it actively. But I could really use your support. Can we find time this week where I can explain what is going on?
On a hard hormone day
Today is a hard hormone day. I am not upset with you — my body is just making everything feel louder than it is. I do not need you to fix it. I just need you to know why I might seem off, and maybe just check in on me later.
After a difficult moment
I want to come back to what happened. When my hormones are dysregulated, my reaction intensity can be disproportionate in ways I cannot always control in the moment. That does not excuse it, and I am sorry. I am working on this. And the fact that you are still here means everything to me.

Estrogen and the brainEstrogen receptors are throughout the brain — including the limbic system, which processes emotion. Declining estrogen directly affects emotional regulation, memory, and stress response.
😴
Why sleep is disruptedProgesterone has a sedating effect. As it drops, so does sleep quality. Night sweats from vasomotor instability wake her from deep sleep — the restorative phase. This is cumulative.
⚡
Testosterone drops too — and it often goes unaddressedTestosterone starts declining in women as early as the mid-30s and continues through perimenopause. Its clearest evidence-backed effect is on sexual desire — reduced libido that persists even when estrogen and progesterone are being treated is often behind an unaddressed testosterone drop. It is frequently not tested or discussed, which is why some women still feel "off" even when other hormones are being treated.
